Primeau Productions: Why Script to Screen is Important

For this post, Primeau Productions gathered nationwide research for our South Carolina and Georgia clients to answer the key question of: “What are the most common mistakes companies make when it comes to making video?”

Kind of amazing!

What amazed us here at Primeau Productions was that regardless of source (from law firms to social media organizations to advertisers and marketers), the top seven reasons given for why videos fail were remarkably the same. These reasons were consistent whether in New York City, Los Angeles or Liberty, South Carolina. We have summarized the results below:

The Top Seven Reasons Why Videos Fail to Deliver

  1. There is no strategy. In other words, people get together and shoot a video for the heck of it. No budget in the world will save a video that has no strategy.
  2. The worst videos are too long. The length of a video does not guarantee its success. The video needs sharp editing and focus. A poor concept cannot be made better by making it longer.
  3. Poor production quality. Whether a video is to be used for social media, YouTube, advertising, trade shows, training or multiple purposes, poor quality equals poor response.
  4. No identity. Call it no identity or poor branding, if the audience is not sure what the organization is “selling,” be it profit or nonprofit, the response will be poor. What is your organization’s brand and what sets it apart?
  5. No emphasis on what is important. What is the video’s intention? Who is the video trying to reach? If that is unknown “going in,” it is almost a certainty no one will understand “going out.” Whether the video is hilariously funny, seriously serious or somewhere in-between, those who produce it need to know what is important.
  6. Ignoring the Smartphone understanding. Did you know, a video can look different on a Smartphone versus a computer? What comes across as a fairly decent message on a computer screen, might turn into an advertisement on a Smartphone. When Primeau Productions shoots a video for a client, we are always aware of both of those worlds.
  7. Not having a good production partner. While we hope our current and future South Carolina and Georgia clients choose Primeau Productions for your next video, at least make certain the production company you choose understands the pitfalls above.

There is no difference in organization

There is no difference between an organization that may be a healthcare provider, a manufacturing company, a builder, a retailer or an association in terms of the points mentioned above. A poorly planned, poorly produced, poorly executed video no matter the industry or original intention will result in failure.

The latest research has shown that overall, the cost of producing a quality video versus a so-so video are insignificant. In other words, no money is saved by producing a video that intentionally cuts corners.

On the other hand, a video produced as the result of a good overall plan can be used for multiple purposes across multiple platforms.

From script to screen, Primeau Productions is fixated on your message. No matter what you do, know that we are a video production company with an eye for detail and an intention to make your organization successful. We make sure your videos deliver.
