Is Video Expensive? Yes – and No.

“Sometimes gut instinct, regardless of price, will be your best guide. Be sure you’ve seen examples of the production company’s work, spoken to someone from the company directly, received a quote, and ensured that the company understands your business and vision.” – Danny Lacey, Video Industry Consultant and Author

How much will it cost us?

It is a common enough question, one that Primeau Productions answers dozens of times a month from clients and prospective clients across South Carolina and Georgia.

Video is never a “one size fits all” proposition. Obviously, it depends on a number of uses. Is it an instructional video? Corporate explainer video? Advertising tool? Corporate meeting video or keynote speech? Is it for social media purposes or product support?

One factor should always be a given: a client should always expect quality. Quality is never offered as a choice of “excellent,” versus “cheap.” Primeau Productions uses top quality equipment and the best production values.

A client must expect that Primeau Productions, or any other video production company, will understand the business, service or association, the organization’s mindset and its vision for

How much a video will cost is dependent on many factors such as length, production complexity or intended usage, but quality, effort, responsiveness, creativity or commitment is non-negotiable. When your company hires us, you are hiring professionals who believe in a professional effort in terms of everything we do.

The national picture

While specific cost estimates are hard to quantify from a distance, we do have national market research facts on video production that are important to share.

Video is becoming increasingly popular in South Carolina, Georgia and beyond. At the end of 2023, about 69-percent of all businesses spent part o somewhere arounf their budget on video with only 31-percent relying on a more passive and organic approach such as word-of-mouth. In fact, at present somewhere around 90-percent of businesses find that video gives them a solid ROI or return on their investment. A percentage that high is a resounding endorsement of video’s importance.

It is no secret, that many traditional forms of advertising have been declining. It is simply a fact of life. However, despite popular opinion, video is not, universally costing more. The latest market research shows 49-percent of production costs are increasing, while nearly 30-percent of marketers feeling that video production is getting cheaper with 21-percent telling us (nationally) that video production costs are still staying the same.

Obviously, lumping all of these statistics together can be misleading. Because video has been so successful, many marketers have been wanting to do more. In some cases, more special effects, more animation, longer interviews, more social media outlets, more uses.

However, one thing is certain: video works. Is video expensive? Considering its versatility, no it isn’t. Surprisingly, cheaply done video, with poor production values, poor editing, bad scripts and short-sighted vision or intentions can turn out to be more expensive in the long-run.

There is no more valuable thing any organization has than its reputation. Excellent video reinforces a solid reputation in hundreds of ways. Primeau Productions believes in excellence.
