Why Video Dwell-Time is a Good Thing

Last week, the Primeau Productions team stopped in at the local coffee shop on the way to a video shoot. We were surprised (but understood) to see a little sign above each booth that said, “During our busy hours, we respectfully ask that you limit your computer work, etc. to 90-minutes.”

In other words, “Please don’t dwell here too long.”

Primeau Productions is in the business of “Dwell”

In our business, the business of making spectacular videos for our amazing South Carolina and Georgia businesses and practices, we want your customers, patients or members to dwell as long as possible.

In the latest national market research summing up video production from 2018 to 2023, the numbers are clear to show that when a video is added to a website, no matter the business, there is an increase in dwell time of anywhere from 82-percent to 87-percent over a website that has no video at all.

Why is dwell time so important?

Website expert Amanda Milligan in her article on February 14, 2023 compared dwell time versus bounce rate versus time on page. If it sounds confusing, it really isn’t. Bounce rate is easiest to explain: someone lands on your website, realizes they came to the wrong place and usually leave in 10-seconds or less.

Time on page may mean a businesses’ website is so confusing and hard to navigate that people either look for something that isn’t there or something is there and they can’t find it!

Dwell time is the key. You want to keep users on your website longer. According to the article, the top three reasons why customers dwell are:

  1. When businesses “embed relevant videos that will make visitors spend more time on your page,”
  2. When businesses “provide useful visuals like illustrations and screenshots,”
  3. When businesses “enable your visitors to engage with you (through comments, ratings, etc.)”

Research shows that video is powerful and useful, and as Primeau Productions has talked about in some of our recent posts, when video is posted on websites and social media where people can dwell, research shows a higher amount of engagement, including comments and ratings.

The key is quality

The greatest return on investment (ROI) for any video is through quality, and from script to screen, quality is a hallmark of Primeau Productions expertise.

A quality video on your website or social media can help to accomplish at least seven important factors whether you have a Greenville dental practice or a Simpsonville home improvement business:

  1. Quality video can help interest new “customers” because they dwell longer
  2. Quality video can help you keep existing customers, clients or patients, because they dwell longer
  3. Quality video improves your brand and service image because they dwell longer
  4. Quality video makes the most of your business’ impact because customers dwell longer
  5. Quality video leaves a lasting impression. They remember “you.”
  6. Quality video tells your website visitors that you care. They see it, because they usually dwell longer.
  7. Quality video, because it is better, and people dwell longer at your website, and increase clicks, will often improve your rankings.

Dwelling may not be good for coffee shops during their busy hours, but they are good for your business anytime. Call us at Primeau Productions to find out more!
