“No Message” Videos Do More Damage than Good

Primeau Productions knows that just about everyone is on a tight budget these days. South Carolina and Georgia businesses are no exception. Unfortunately, there are still companies who try the do-it-yourself approach in order to budget. For the most part those videos fail. Any temporary savings are offset by the lack of engagement and effectiveness.

Video production has gotten far too sophisticated, the competition is enormous and with nearly 90-percent of all businesses using video in some form, substandard videos cannot cut through the clutter.

Before going any further

Yes, we are aware of—and produce, so-called “silent explainer videos” that simply use text and graphics. Properly done, with effective animation, they can be effective on social media platforms to demonstrate products or services. They can improve SEO rankings and help keep a project on budget.

However, it is important to know that even silent explainer videos must carry a powerful and active message. There are no shortcuts in producing those videos.

When Primeau Productions refers to some videos low-budget videos being produced as “no message,” we are referring to a lack of focus that takes away from the important point the video was trying to get across. It is a much more common occurrence than you might think. The message, not a haphazardly planned “creative moment” is all-import. Let’s explore this in more detail.

Primeau Productions Starts with “The Message”

The message conveyed in any short-form video must both make an immediate impression and make the object of that message clear. The more points crammed into such a small space, the less that is retained by the viewer. It is what we call overstuffing.

In producing a short-form, informational explainer video, narrated or “silent,” keep it simple so the message can be absorbed. Focus is all-important. Is your organization wanting to produce the video as a rallying cry to action? Creating an awareness of your product or service or brand? Education? An event? Recognizing a problem or opportunity?

The most effective videos have a single purpose, especially when your organization has only two or three minutes to tell the story. Cluttering the video with multiple messages will, guaranteed, cause a future round of edits to improve clarity, purpose and focus.

When Primeau Productions works with one of our valued South Carolina or Georgia clients we follow the five elements to making what can create a more effective video:

1. We work with the client to hone the message. What do you want to say and why?

2. We are keenly interested in your audience. Who are they? What appeals to them? What turns them off? What makes them resist messaging?

3. We follow a plan – always. We help your organization to track a story line, and a message that works.

4. We approach each video with a professional mindset. The video industry is no longer an amateur playground. We protect your money by choosing excellence over clutter.

5. There is no substitute for collaboration. “Going it alone” in video production is fool’s gold. Let our professionalism in video production match the seriousness with which you approach your business.

The best message is always when we work together to achieve greatness!
