“If the prospect of this flattening—and all of the pressures, dislocations, and opportunities accompanying it—makes you uneasy about the future, you are neither wrong nor alone.” ― Thomas L. Friedman, Author.
Though Primeau Productions is a full-service, video production company based in South Carolina, we are well-aware of the technical innovations that are making the entire earth “flat.” Before any of our wonderful South Carolina or Georgia video clients panic start to worry about falling off the planet, flatness has nothing to do with geography or geology, but with communication and technology.
In the olden days of the 1950s, it might take information or trends days or even weeks to travel from New York to Los Angeles. In today’s world of the internet, cable television, video streaming, podcasting and of course, social media, information is virtually instantaneous.
In similar fashion, posting a video on a corporate or association website based in Greenville or Athens, Georgia can be seen in a matter of seconds by a viewer in Copenhagen, Denmark or Gdansk, Poland. Video makes us so interconnected that posting the video content online can immediately provide huge opportunities or major challenges.
The Flat-Earth Challenge
An example of a typical “flat earth video challenge,” might be a family living in Dallas (not picking on you, Dallas!) keenly interested in moving to Simpsonville, South Carolina. How will they get their information? They might know someone here, but undoubtedly, they will look online to get started. The variations as to how they will look, or what they are looking for, are endless of course, but it is a given they will be led to all kinds of videos from realtors to builders to schools to veterinarians.
Finding videos on websites or social media is not a challenge to our family in the example above, however that is not where the challenge lies.
Did you know around the world, at least a million or more videos are posted to the internet every day? Some are instructional but many advertise or discuss a project or service. They are explainer videos.
It has been estimated that at least 90% of all businesses or associations use video to convey their message? Naturally, existing video is replaced, edited or modified for different devices, so the number of videos in production are always churning.
While these numbers might sound impressive, to us at Primeau Productions, the numbers tell only part of the story. The “flat video world” has become extremely competitive. A lot of videos, from good to bad, are never seen. People pass over them, don’t bookmark them, don’t think about them twice. Why is that?
7 Reasons Why Your Video Doesn’t Get Views (On the Flat or Round Earth)
- There is no strategy to the content. It lacks intention and planning. It is unclear.
- AI is a tool. Human touch is needed, even on the flat, digital earth.
- The subject matter isn’t captivating. It is so-so. Some might call it “fluff.” If the energy is boring, your viewer will get bored.
- Visually, it is weak. It may be lighting, poor equipment or ambiguous naming but weak is weak. The same, of course, applies to poor sound.
- You’re borrowing content? Viewers are sophisticated. If they’ve seen it before, it’s bad news before it becomes news! The video supposed to serve potential customers, not the organization.
- No point. Why was the video made? What is the catch? If viewers suspect it is clickbait, they will never return.
- It’s insincere. The viewer can sense when an organization is trying to be another organization!
At Primeau Productions, our mission is your success. For more than 30-years, we’ve helped organizations travel the flat earth. Let us help your company to reach more successful heights.
