The AI Revolution in Video Production (Has a Catch)

“Being frustrated is disagreeable, but the real disasters in life begin when you get what you want.”  – Irving Kristol, Author

Primeau Productions has been carefully tracking trends in AI as it relates to video production. As with virtually every other aspect of sales, marketing and other creative business endeavors, AI in video production and video content production has been hailed as the latest and greatest new thing.

According to the latest market research (reported by Wyzowl 2025 market research) studies show “This is almost an even split. 51% of video marketers say they’ve used AI tools to help them create or edit marketing videos, while 49% have not.”

However, despite all of the excitement around AI-driven video production in South Carolina, Georgia and across the country, another statistic has emerged which we feel important enough to quote in full:

“Last year, we [Wyzowl]. reported that 75% of video marketers had used AI to create or edit videos. This has dropped significantly to 51%. Could this highlight an issue with the quality of AI-generated videos? Perhaps the technology is not yet capable of matching the high standard of human-made videos.”

How Could This Be?

There is no doubt that artificial intelligence is changing the way America works. For now, AI is taking away many of the more tedious tasks in organizations from doctor’s offices issuing patient appointment reminders to advertising copy for online shoe sale deals. AI is a time saver, it can be highly efficient and an effective cost cutting tool.

We won’t avoid the obvious here: AI can virtually produce a video, complete with AI-generated images, narrated copy, customized copy, upload it to social media, help gather sales leads, “funnel” those leads, respond to those leads and virtually make the sale. So…wow! As the quote above suggests: you can get what you want. But is it what you want?

If the scenario above is so perfect, why did the AI use in video creation drop so significantly in recent years?

Establishing Boundaries

For all the miraculous qualities ascribed to AI-driven video production, there are numerous pitfalls. The pitfalls go back to AI itself. While many organizations believe videos can be “made from scratch,” understand the most modern of modern-day computers rely on data that has been inputted somewhere along the line.

Some might call it stealing. While seeing an animated image of Mona Lisa running in a name brand track suit around the Clemson campus might sound creative, we must remember the artwork has been freely borrowed.

This could possibly lead to lawsuits. It is also derivative; unoriginal. It has been done a thousand times over.

In some cases, AI video has used likenesses and even voice re-creations of politicians or movie stars without permission. While seemingly “creative,” it also may serve to erode ethical confidence. It also leads to concerns over the legitimacy of organizations. How authentic is an organization, a viewer might ask?

Primeau Productions cares about our South Carolina and Georgia clients, and others who have honored us with their business in other parts of the country. While we might weave in generated background elements, by and large we prefer the human element. We know that technology cannot replace human creativity, human knowledge and human “leaps of brilliance.”

Each day millions of videos are produced. Many of them are using AI and most fall flat. Organizations quickly learn than when it comes to video production cheaper is never better.

Primeau Productions is a human company, not robotic and always original.
